With Kris Avery, you're in good hands - Before & After the Stork

“Birth is not only about making babies. Birth is about making mothers strong – strong, competent, capable mothers who trust themselves and know their inner strength.”
Barbara Katz-Rothman

In 1974, Kris discovered her passion when she first saw a baby being born. She knew then her mission was to work with birthing women and their families and help them get off to a good start. She is now an RN, a Lamaze childbirth educator and Lamaze International program trainer as well as a birth and postpartum doula (certified through Doulas Of North America or DONA). Her business, called “Before and After the Stork”, is how she fulfills her mission.

She has a talent for teaching and works hard to “stomp out boring childbirth classes” and provide expecting parents the best information possible as they get ready for their baby’s arrival. Her childbirth preparation (Lamaze) classes can be taken as a group course or in private sessions. Refresher classes for parents who have already had a child are available. Kris can provide instruction to parents who are expecting multiples and for women who are on bed-rest.

Her services include providing labor and birth support as well as postpartum doula services (in-home help after the baby is born) as well as assistance in getting breast feeding off to a good start for both mother and baby.

Kris and her husband have had a wonderful time parenting two children, a daughter and a son (both are now in their twenties). One day, her children will make Kris a grandmother but, in the meantime, she loves working with new mothers, their babies and families!
